Clone Existing Publish Service

This option clones the structure and images from an existing Publish Service into this one. It works as follows:

Prerequisites:

  • The target Publish Service (i.e., this service) must be empty, with no collections or collection sets. If you have just created the service, you may need to delete the default collection.
  • The service must be connected to the Piwigo Host.

Using the Clone Option:

  1. Click the option to display a drop-down menu containing all Publish Services in the current LrC Catalog, except this one.
  2. Select the service you want to clone into this one. Ensure the selected service is up to date (i.e., all photos are Published) and click Next.
  3. A preliminary scan of the selected service will run, and a dialog box will display its details.
  4. If any collections contain unpublished photos, you will be unable to proceed.
  5. Click Clone to create the clone. The exact behavior depends on the type of service being cloned:

1. Piwigo-connected service (same Piwigo Host)

  • A complete clone is possible, retaining all connections to Piwigo. This option could be used for example to clone a Piwigo Publish service using a different plugin whilst retaining all the links to Piwigo.
  • Collection Sets, Collections, Smart Collections, and associated images will be cloned.
  • Important If the collection being cloned contains smart collections, then a 'dummy' publish has to be run on the newly created versions of those collections. This is the only way (so far) that I have found to populate the smart collection properly so that the links to Piwigo can be added. The dummy publish does not send any images to Piwigo but for large smart collections this process may take a significant time.
  • No new Piwigo albums are created (they should already exist on the host).
  • Existing links to Piwigo are retained.
  • Afterward, run Publish activities as normal.

2. Piwigo-connected service (different Piwigo Host)

  • Collection Sets, Collections, Smart Collections, and associated images will be cloned.
  • No Piwigo albums are created.
  • No connections to the Piwigo Host are established.
  • Run Check and Link Piwigo Structure to create or link the corresponding album structure on the Piwigo Host.
  • Afterward, run Publish activities as normal.

3. Non-Piwigo-connected service
