Any reason NeoVim isn't already an option? Any objections to adding it?

I noticed there is a vim-essentials, but no installation option for vim (or neovim).
Searching for issues/discussion, I couldn't find anything on the subject, so asking first.

Has this been explored before and rejected?
If not, I'll be happy to create a PR that allows installing NeoVim's AppImage.
