FCast Trademark Policy

FCast is a registered trademark of FUTO. The FCast source code is available under the MIT License, but the license does not grant rights to use the FCast trademarks. These guidelines explain how third-party projects can use the FCast name and logo while making it clear they are not official FUTO products.

Application Naming

  • Do not name your application "FCast Receiver", "FCast Sender", or any variation that implies it is an official FUTO product.
  • Do choose a unique application name for your project.
  • You may indicate protocol compatibility alongside your own name using descriptive language.

The goal is to make it clear to users that your application is an independent project, not one published or maintained by FUTO.

Correct Examples

  • "StreamBox - compatible with FCast"
  • "StreamBox - an FCast-compatible receiver"
  • "StreamBox implements the FCast protocol"
  • "StreamBox for FCast users"
  • A store listing description that says: "StreamBox is a media receiver that supports the FCast protocol."

Incorrect Examples

  • "FCast Receiver" / "FCast Sender" — implies an official FUTO application
  • "FCast Player" / "FCast for TV" / "FCast+" — uses the trademark as the product name
  • "FCast StreamBox" — places the trademark at the beginning, suggesting an official product line
  • "fcast-receiver" as a published package name — could be mistaken for an official package

Logo and Icon Usage

  • Do not use the FCast logo, or any confusingly similar derivative, as your application's icon (launcher icon, store listing icon, etc.).
  • You may display the FCast logo within your application's UI where it serves to communicate protocol compatibility to the user (e.g. a connection status screen, a protocol selection menu, or an about page).
  • When displaying the logo inside your application, do not modify it in ways that misrepresent the FCast brand.

Attribution and Disclaimers

Your application should include a clear disclaimer that it is not affiliated with FUTO. This should appear in at least one of the following locations:

  • The application's "About" screen or section
  • The project's README or main documentation page
  • The application's store listing description (if distributed via an app store)

A suitable disclaimer would be:

This application is an independent community implementation of the FCast protocol. It is not affiliated with FUTO. FCast is a registered trademark of FUTO.

Changes

This policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be reflected in this document.
